Martin first started tutoring and teaching back in 2004, when he was working at a Silicon Valley startup that felt like it might not last forever. He saw a want ad for GMAT teachers and, having done very well on that test to get into an MBA program, thought, this can't be that hard. Instead of just making a little extra money, he stumbled onto a passion: he loved explaining concepts and techniques to others and then watching their eyes light up when they understood. For a while, he was a star teacher and tutor at a large national test prep company, quickly moving up to the top echelon and even being named Tutor of the Year. Martin has also contributed to many course manuals and materials; you can find his name in some of the GMAT and GRE books at the local library or bookstore. He has also achieved 99th percentile scores on the SAT, ACT, GMAT, and GRE.

 

Now independent, Martin continues to provide custom tutoring solutions to students of any age or learning style.

 

Before finding his passion for helping students achieve their graduate school goals, Martin spent over 8 years in the marketing and product management industries at various startups in the Bay Area, and also worked as a research scientist at NASA Ames. Martin earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MBA from the Santa Clara Leavey School of Business. When he’s not teaching, Martin enjoys playing basketball, tennis, or poker; watching hockey or anything Chicago-related (Chicago PD, Fire, etc); and masquerading as a foodie.
